Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) is a form of manual therapy that works to balance and strengthen the muscular system. A certified MAT practitioner activates muscles through both palpations as well as positional isometric contractions.

MAT has taken basic components of physiology and biomechanics and transferred them into a systematic approach for evaluating and treating the biomechanical relationships relating to chronic pain or injury. The evaluation and treatment procedures developed by MAT is substantiated and validated by many components relating to muscle physiology. The program is based upon the monitoring and restoring the capability of muscles to contract.

I am a MAT Certified Specialist. I have found it to be an extremely affective form of therapy to assist my clients in achieving their physical goals. With every new client I actually start with an MAT assessment. This technique gives me knowledge as to a clients readiness for activity. Working with a personal trainer should be more than just exercise. If your system is under great stress sometimes adding exercise can create may new problems. MAT gives me the tools to strengthen the whole muscular system in a very affective way. I have considerably more knowledge about the client’s body than just weighing, measuring and movement will ever show.

This technique has become invaluable to me as a personal fitness trainer. I can actually test to see if my client’s body is responding positively to exercise. Wow, what an awesome tool! The combination of MAT, exercise and proper nutrition can create an incredible outcome. It took me a considerable amount of time and money to become certified in MAT but the benefits of this therapy to my personal training clients can not be weighed.

I also treat clients who have no desire to exercise. MAT on it’s own can create greater function in the body for everyone. It is a valid form of therapy. I encourage you to contact me with questions I would love to discuss this as an option for yourself or someone you know.
